Sump Pump Repair & Installation in New York

The pump you only think about when it fails.

What this job actually involves

A sump pump is a single point of failure protecting a basement, and it almost always fails during the storm that needs it. The common faults are a stuck float, a seized motor after years of sitting, a check valve that lets water fall back into the pit, and a discharge line that froze or blocked outside.

We test under real conditions by filling the pit rather than lifting the float by hand, check the discharge run all the way to daylight, and size replacements for the pit and the head they actually have to lift against. Battery backup is worth discussing for any basement that would be expensive to flood.

Customer reviews

★★★★★

Whole house repipe on a 1940s place with galvanized. They planned the route first, worked room by room, and we had water every night. Water is clear now for the first time.

Our main line backed up into the basement on a Sunday. They cleared it from the cleanout and then put a camera down and showed me the roots at a joint about thirty feet out. Booked the repair for the following week with no pressure.

Bought an older house and had them scope the sewer before closing. The camera found a bellied section and I renegotiated. Best money I spent on that purchase.

Sump Pump Repair & Installation: common questions

How often should I test it?

Twice a year, and always before spring melt. Pour a bucket into the pit and watch it cycle and shut off cleanly.

Do I need a battery backup?

If your basement is finished, or if the storms that flood you are the same ones that cut the power, then yes. That is exactly when the primary pump is useless.

Why does my pump keep running?

Usually a check valve letting water back into the pit, or a float caught on the pit wall or the pump cord.
